Lambuth University’s Social Work Program Professional Development Series

May 12- May 14, 2009

 

Dr. Lisa Norgard,  Assistant Professor of Social Work and Director of BSW Program at Lambuth University, announces a development series where the Social Work faculty will collaborate with community professionals to provide four continuing education workshops to the public.
Workshop #1:  Tuesday, May 12, 2009: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

“Interacting with Complicated Workplace Dynamics-understanding verbal and non-verbal communication.” 

This training provides an overview of workplace dynamics, including challenges of worker relationships and communication issues. This workshop is unique because of its focus on meaningful non-verbal Interactions between co-workers and colleagues.

Presenter: Jim Jones, LCSW, Psychotherapist, Assistant Professor of Social Work/Director of Field Education-Lambuth University

 

Workshop #2:  Tuesday, May 12, 2009: 1 – 4 p.m.

“Identifying and Interfacing with Verbal Abuse”

This training presents new learning in the areas of: identifying symptoms and signs of verbal abuse, understanding the physical and psychological impact of verbal abuse, identification of the multiple categories of verbal abuse, and methods of confronting verbal abuse in personal and professional settings.

Workshop #3: Wednesday, May 13, 2009:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

“Alternative Approaches to Physical Healing”

This training presents a progressive model of healing and recovery. The workshop focuses on non-medical approaches to healing-such as relaxation techniques, spiritual connectedness and positive psychology. In recent years, the field of social work has advocated for a more comprehensive spiritual assessment and intervention process with clients and research points to the fact that spiritual connectedness enhances healing in areas of pain management, illness, and mental health.

Workshop #4:  Thursday, May 14, 2009: 1 – 4 p.m.

“Understanding Obesity and Empowering Clients to Embrace a Healthy Lifestyle”

This training presents an overview of the national epidemic of obesity. The workshop identifies the criteria of diagnosing obesity, physical and psycho-social aspects of obesity and methods of managing obesity. The workshop will include best practices for empowering clients of different developmental stages, ages and cultures to improve health.

Presenter: Brian Billings, LCSW, Clinical/Medical Social Worker

 

Fees/Registration: 

All workshops are 3.0 hours and all cost $49.00

Payment of cash or check of $49.00 must be paid on day of workshop at registration

Participants need to register by Monday, May 11th by emailing an RSVP to: norgard@lambuth.edu

Workshops will be held in Varnell Jones Hall at Lambuth University-room number will be posted

Certificates will be provided with program director/participant signatures

A list of goals and objectives can be provided for participants who want to submit for CEU’s.
