Lambuth University is going green for Earth Day! On April 22, 2008, the Lambuth Student Government Association (SGA), along with the campus food provider, Sodexho, will be hosting a community wide lunch to kick off a new campus recycling program. Lunch will be served on the Lambuth quadrangle from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. (rain venue: inside the cafeteria), and a brief dedication kicking off the Lambuth SGA Go Green program will be held at 12:15 p.m. The event is open to the community, and it only requires four cans of nonperishable foods to get a great meal. The meal will focus on an organic and sustainable menu of fruits, vegetables, and other earth friendly entrées.
"SGA feels that the recycling program will be successful and sustainable because of the overwhelming push from both students and faculty for Lambuth to join in on the fight for our environment," said LaBrandon Dates, Lambuth SGA Secretary of Communications.
Highlighting the Earth Day emphasis, all serving-ware and utensils will be recyclable, and recycle bins will be available on campus for paper, aluminum and plastic, courtesy of the Lambuth Student Government Association's new recycling program. All food collected during the month of April will be donated to RIFA. This is part of a larger campaign Sodexho employees across the nation participate in annually. Last year the Lambuth community raised more than 30,000 pounds of food for RIFA.
